What I’m reading: April

The last week or so I have been glomming on Nalini Singh’s Psy-Changeling series.  It is far from the first time I read this series.  I love it.  I love the complex and rich worldbuilding, but most of all I love the characters.

They are Changelings, Psy and human, but what I also appreciate is that all of them has a past that have affected them and that affects the plots in the books.

But what I appreciate the most is how all the books in the series builds up  to the climax of the story arc.  It is also interesting to see the changes in the world, from Slave to Sensation ( book one) to Heart of Obsidian.  While I suppose you can read the books out of order, I recommend you read them in order. At least the first time  🙂

Oh, and if you are looking for diverse books? I definitely recommend these.

The only draw back is that I need to find another series to glom on. Maybe Patricia Rice Malcolm Ives series? After all, I just replaced my copy of Merely Magic, which I bought when she originally selfpubbed her backlist, with the Sourcebooks edition.

I know I have been quiet this month, but I have been in an reading slump. Sigh. But I think I am finally crawling out of it. Anyway, here is what I have read this month.

Currently reading:

I love Wen Spencer’s novels, but I am struggling with this one. I think the main problem is that I read it recently enough that I still remember what happens to the characters.

This was one of the free books at World Fantasy Con.  And it is another one that I am struggling with. I think it is because it is an omnibus of the three Bookman novels, so even if I have read 70 pages it feels like I haven’t read anything.

Recently read:

A Fistful of Sky by Nina Kiriki Hoffman. This is one of my favorite novels. I love the LaZelle family, I love the magic. It felt like I slid on an old, comfy sweater when I read it. 🙂

I have had this in my TBR pile for years, and I regret that I didn’t read it earlier. It was really good, but I wish I had realised it was No 2 in a trilogy. It was surprisingly stand alone.

Reading next:

I am not sure. Probably some more fantasy from the TBR pile. Or maybe some mystery. 🙂

Currently reading:

BitingNixie3x4.5_medium

I am enjoying this, even if I have problem with romance novels told from 1st POV. But I like Nixie’s snark, the setting, and her interactions with her friends.

jenny_450

This is the last in The Windham series, and while it is sweet and touching, I don’t feel a spark between Jenny and Elijah. But then I have that problem with most of Grace Burrowes Christmas novels. Don’t ask me why.

Recently Finished:

Print

This have been on my wishlist for awhile, and I am glad that read it. Overall, I liked it, even if some of the author’s phrasings rubbed me the wrong way.

Reading next:

I am not sure. I am in the mood for erotic romance, but I am not sure what to read from the TBR pile. But I have a lot to choose from!

I am re-reading Meljean Brook’s Guardian series, since Guardian Demon just released and I want the stories fresh before I read it. So, there are a big theme in this post :).

Recently finished:

Demon Bound. I think this is my favorite book in the series, since it is the book that add an epic layer to the series.

Currently reading:

Demon Forged. I’ll admit that I considered reading something else, but in the end I decided to read Demon Forged, since I want to re-read Irena and Alejandro’s story, and find out what happens next.

Reading next:

Well, by now it is obvious what I am reading next : Demon Blood, and then Demon Marked. And then… Guardian Demon. ( I really don’t want this series to be over but at the same time it is nice that Meljean Brook isn’t dragging it out. )

Recently finished:

Goddess with a blade by Lauren Dane. Normally I like Lauren Dane’s novels, but this one didn’t work for me. I think part of it was because it was UF, but it had a romance subplot that felt tacked on. I think it would have worked better if it had been Paranormal Romance.

Currently reading:
Diana’s Hound by Moira Rogers.  I like the Bloodhound novels, so I requested this for review.  So far I enjoy it :).
Reading next: I am not sure, honestly. I am thinking about re-reading The Hurog Duology by Patricia Briggs, but I am feeling a bit burned out on fantasy, Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance right now. So I think I’ll read something else. Maybe a mystery or two.

I am re-reading this since the next book is out in two months. It is good, but it isn’t as good as I rememebered it was :). It might be because I still remember the plot, although it has been years since I read it.  Or maybe it is because I am not used to reading really long books anymore ( It is 750 pages!).

• What did you recently finish reading?

I liked it a lot, but I have one big complaint: the romance moved too fast. Which since it is a Paranormal romance is a big complaint.

• What do you think you’ll read next?
Probably This Rough Magic, the next book in the Heirs of Alexandria series. Since I am int the mood to re-read the series.

What are you currently reading?
Ondskans hus by Heather Graham.
This is the first book in her Hunters of Krewe series. I have wanted to read this for awhile, so when a Swedish bookstore offered a 50% off coupon on Harlequin titles, I decided to by it. So far I like it, even if I don’t love it.

What did you recently finish reading?
Night blade by JC Daniels.
Oh my god. It was really good, in a heart wrenching way. If you like Urban Fantasy, I highly recommend this series. But read Blade song first!
Haunted Moon by Yasmine Galenorn:
I think I am getting series fatigue. The books are good, but it feels like the story arc is dragged out.

What do you think you’ll read next?
I am dithering between reading Ketheril by John H Carroll, or re-reading the first two books in the trilogy.
