Why was it in my TBR? I was in the mood for romance

The Review:

The blurb:

Under Faith Malone’s deceptively soft exterior lies a woman who knows exactly what she wants. A strong man who’ll take without asking—because she’s willing to give him everything…

Dallas cop Gray Montgomery is on a mission: find the guy who killed his partner—and bring him to justice. So far, he’s found a link between the killer and Faith—and if Gray has to get close to her to catch the killer, so be it.

My impressions:

This was another spontan re-read. I didn’t want to read fantasy, so I rummaged through my bookcase and found this. When I read it, I was reminded why I love Maya Banks. It is the first book in her Sweet Series.

It was refreshing to read a novel were the heroine tries seduce the hero, and not the other way around. The banter between the characters added an extra depth. The plot was well-written. I especially liked how the suspense plot and the romance plot interacted with each other.

This is a sizzling story, that grabbed me from page one.

The Review:

The blurb:

Dara’s past four incredible years have been lived to the fullest. Along with her best friends, Kane and Jack, she’s left no local wilderness unexplored, no ski slope unchallenged. Yet lately she wonders why they’ve never seen her as more than a buddy with breasts. When—or if—either man will cross that unspoken line.
It’s a line Kane eyes harder every day. Since high school, he and Jack have shared everything. A condo, vacations—and their best girl. Kane’s ready to get serious about his wilderness school and outfitter business, and that includes putting down roots. Preferably with Dara.
Wary of the men who’ve recently been sniffing around Dara, Jack has a growing sense that he or Kane better make a move soon, or they’re going to lose out on their perfect match. Question is, who does she prefer…and who’s going to bring their easygoing trio to an end?
Overhearing the boys arguing over her, Dara’s floored—and torn. Choose between them? No way. Drastic measures are called for, a plan for their annual holiday getaway that will clarify her feelings once and for all—or lose everything in a sexual storm of whiteout proportions.
Warning: Old friends turned lovers can get into the most trouble—exhibitionism, bondage, spanking. Anal sex, oral sex, unauthorized use of ski safety harnesses, icicles in the hot tub…the author apologizes in advance for any melted monitors.

My impressions:

I like friends to lover stories, I like threesomes. Most of all, I like Vivian Arend. So, this felt like a guaranteed good read. I must admit, I was some what disappointed. Oh, it isn’t bad, but it isn’t the sizzling book I had expected. There was a lot of sex, the interaction between characters. But, it felt like everything went too smoothly. There was no conflict. Oh, sometimes it was hinted
at, but it never interrupted the story.

Here Comes the Groom by Karina Bliss

Here Comes the Groom (Harlequin Superromance)Here Comes the Groom by Karina Bliss

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Particulars: Contemporary Romance, Harlequin Superromance, available both in print and e-book

Why was it in my TBR? I picked it up for Smart Bitch Sarah’s bookclub, but I never got around to read it.

The Review:

The blurb:

If Jocelyn Swann weren’t so furious she’d probably laugh. Her best friend, Dan Jansen, has launched a campaign worthy of his Special Forces Training to arrange their wedding, from music and minister to flowers and food. What part of no does he not understand?

Their marriage agreement was a tipsy scrawl on the back of a coaster three years ago. It’s not a question of love. Of course she loves Dan. She’s loved him all her life. If only she could get him to slow down a minute and listen – to be the friend she needs right now – she could convince him that marriage would ruin everything.

My impressions:
This is the first book by Karina Bliss that I have read. And I must say, I am impressed. In a limited space created a funny, yet touching story about love, and acceptance.
I smiled when I read about their courting. How Jo stubbornly insisted it was a joke, while Dan calmly continued to prepare for the wedding.. Jo’s reasons for refusing to marry Dan makes sense. He is wounded after the death of his friends. And, he needs to accept that he isn’t to blame.
I liked that Jo gradually realised that she couldn’t take care of her grandmother any. The way it was portrayed felt realistic.

All in all this was an enjoyable story, and I will definitely read more by Karina Bliss!

Why was it in my TBR? I read about it at Shiloh Walker’s blog, and the blurb snagged me.

The Review:

The blurb:

Two years after a brutal tragedy, Tania is taking her life and her fantasies back. All of them. Drake Bennett has wanted Tania for years. Wanted her, watched her, knowing he’d never have her. Now he has a chance, but that chance comes with some strings attached. There’s also a good possibility he’ll get his heart broken.

Warning: This book involves light bondage play, rape fantasy & role-playing. The acts between the hero & heroine are consensual, but they may not be ideal for all readers.

My impressions:
I have started this review twice. Why? Because I am having trouble finding words describing the book, yet I feel I cannot skip this review.

This is a dark book, filled with twisted memories. Yet at the same time, it feels hopeful. If there is a theme in this book to trust the world again.

Shiloh Walker is a talented author, that manage to make each word, every sentence count. That combined with the tension between Drake and Tania created a read that I couldn’t put down.

The plot isn’t the important part. No, the important part are the relationship between the characters. Both of them struggle, Tania with her past. Drake struggles with his feelings for her, the anger he feels against the thought of her getting hurt.
