Friday Bargains: Mostly About Book View Cafe

This week, all the books featured are available for 0.99. And before you ask: You don’t need to create an account at Book View Cafe, the link to the download page is e-mailed to you.

Girl's Guide to Witchcraft by Mindy KlaskyJane Madison has a problem. Or two. Or three. She’s unhappily working as a librarian.  She has a crush on her oblivious Imaginary Boyfriend. And she just learned she won’t receive a well-deserved raise; instead, she can live for free in a cottage on the library grounds.
When Jane settles into her new home, she discovers a hidden chamber lined with ancient books about witchcraft.  Her first spell awakens a feline familiar. Her second makes her irresistible to men. Those magical workings attract a grouchy magical warder, and Jane’s life is quickly turned upside down!

I’ll admit that I have tried several of Mindy Klasky’s novels, and have come to the conclusion that her books isn’t for me.  But 0.99 is a good price to give her a try if you haven’t read her before. Buy at Book View Cafe.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERACops drink coffee.
They don’t belong in Ellen Rosings’s Victorian tearoom. But when her opening day thank-you tea ends in the murder of the president of the Santa Fe Preservation Trust, the police invade her haven.

Enter Detective Tony Aragon: attractive and unsympathetic, with a chip on his shoulder that goes beyond the murder investigation, and Ellen’s delicate bone china cup is full. Is the murderer one of her honored guests, or the ghost rumored to haunt the building? Will Ellen solve the mystery, or will the Wisteria Tearoom’s premiere turn out to be its—and Ellen’s—finale?

This book isn’t a Book View Cafe book, but Patrica Rice is part of Book View Cafe 🙂 It should be 0.99 at Amazon. ( I having problem the discounted price showing up for me, since I am in Sweden).

And, for the sole Bargain that isn’t related to Book View Cafe:
Adriel should have known that with a werewolf, it never stopped with just one body. She would have gone to the police after witnessing Dolores’ death, but she wasn’t certain the killer she saw was responsible for the other murders. Besides, the police didn’t believe in werewolves, and they weren’t going to believe she was a witch either so what could she tell them?

She kept her eyes and ears open while she tried to help her latest client escape the clutches of a voodoo witch, but things went from bad to worse when more bodies turned up. She was greatly relieved when she met White Feather, an undercover cop. Unfortunately, he wasn’t convinced she was innocent of all wrong-doing.

It was going to take every spell she knew and a few she hadn’t tried to solve the murders and stay alive.
I loved this book when I read it.  It is discounted to  0.99 for the next week at Amazon and BN, and the author’s store

This is a really good week for lover of PNR and Urban Fantasy.    I am really happy, since several of the books have been on my wishlist for awhile :).

3.99:

Eleven thousand years ago a god was born. Cursed into the body of a human, Acheron spent a lifetime of shame. His human death unleashed an unspeakable horror that almost destroyed the earth. Brought back against his will, he became the sole defender of mankind. Only it was never that simple. For centuries, he has fought for our survival and hidden a past he never wants revealed. Until a lone woman who refuses to be intimidated by him threatens his very existence. Now his survival, and ours, hinges on hers and old enemies reawaken and unite to kill them both.
War has never been more deadly… or more fun.

Charley sees dead people. That’s right, she sees dead people. And it’s her job to convince them to “go into the light.” But when these very dead people have died under less than ideal circumstances (i.e. murder), sometimes they want Charley to bring the bad guys to justice. Complicating matters are the intensely hot dreams she’s been having about an Entity who has been following her all her life…and it turns out he might not be dead after all. In fact, he might be something else entirely.

A smashing, award-winning debut novel that introduces Charley Davidson: part-time private investigator and full-time Grim Reaper

2.99:

As the junior wizard sentinel for New Orleans, Drusilla Jaco’s job involves a lot more potion-mixing and pixie-retrieval than sniffing out supernatural bad guys like rogue vampires and lethal were-creatures. DJ’s boss and mentor, Gerald St. Simon, is the wizard tasked with protecting the city from anyone or anything that might slip over from the preternatural beyond.

Then Hurricane Katrina hammers New Orleans’ fragile levees, unleashing more than just dangerous flood waters.

While winds howled and Lake Pontchartrain surged, the borders between the modern city and the Otherworld crumbled. Now, the undead and the restless are roaming the Big Easy, and a serial killer with ties to voodoo is murdering the soldiers sent to help the city recover.

To make it worse, Gerry has gone missing, the wizards’ Elders have assigned a grenade-toting assassin as DJ’s new partner, and undead pirate Jean Lafitte wants to make her walk his plank. The search for Gerry and for the serial killer turns personal when DJ learns the hard way that loyalty requires sacrifice, allies come from the unlikeliest places, and duty mixed with love creates one bitter gumbo

1.99:
All the creatures of the night gather in “the Hollows” of Cincinnati, to hide, to prowl, to party…and to feed.

Vampires rule the darkness in a predator-eat-predator world rife with dangers beyond imagining – and it’s Rachel Morgan’s job to keep that world civilized.

A bounty hunter and witch with serious sex appeal and an attitude, she’ll bring ’em back alive, dead…or undead

Free:
Sebastian DelaCourte has lived centuries, always seeking, wondering about the woman who made him vampire. He desires love. He needs blood. Scarlet Rose captures his heart, and promises love—but not without forcing the two to face the twisted fate of time and undying passion.
This is a twofer, both book one and two combined into one omnibus.

War is coming for the dragon knights…but love may find them first.

A chance meeting with a young male dragon seals the fate of one adventurous female poacher. The dragon’s partner, a ruggedly handsome knight named Gareth, takes one look at the shapely woman and decides to do a little poaching of his own.

Sir Gareth both seduces and falls deeply in love with the girl who is not only unafraid of dragons but also possesses a rare gift—she can hear the beasts’ silent speech. He wants her for his mate, but mating with a knight is no simple thing. To accept a knight, a woman must also accept the dragon, the dragon’s mate…and her knight, Lars, too.

She is at first shocked, then intrigued by the lusty life in the Lair. But war is in the making and only the knights and dragons have a chance at ending it before it destroys their land and their lives.

This book has been revised for rerelease.
Note: This book is Samhain’s current Bookclub pick, which means it will go up in price on Monday.

Friday Bargains: All about indie books

The first four books in Karina Halle‘s Experiment in Terror series are discounted to 0.99. ( Actually, book one is free, but  the next 4 books are discounted.)

I loved  Evil Genius by Patricia Rice when I read it a couple of years ago, and right now it is discounted to 2.99. Which is a bargain for this novel.

I like Marie Force Gansett Island Series, but I haven’t read her Harrington series yet. But it is on my wishlist, and right now Treading Water, book One, is free at Amazon, Smashwords, BN and Kobo.

The Governess Affair by Courtney Milan is also free at the moment. I liked it when I read it last year. ( In fact, I need to get the rest of the series.)

Tarnished Heart by Bec Macallister is free right now. I have heard good things about her, so I’ll probably  read it soon.

Friday Finds: Fantasy and Steampunk

I don’t have that many books this week, but the ones I have are high up on the to buy list
I stumbled upon this one, and both the blurb and the cover intrigued me, so I’ll probably add it to the wishlist.

On the eve of her retirement from the army, Mistress Commander Angharad Godkin finds herself re-activated and directed to replace the governor of the newly conquered territory of Shraeven. With its multitude of diverse societies and religions, the province will not be easy to tame; but Angharad has thirty-four years of experience and is determined to succeed–even with the additional challenge of an ex-lover as her second-in-command.

However, what starts out as a seemingly predictable military challenge takes multiple unexpected turns at the hands of Shraeven’s rebellious people, their unorthodox beliefs, and their capricious, demanding, and very tangible gods. Angharad quickly finds herself the central piece in a game being fought on too many levels, all of them very foreign to her nature and background.

But if she’s being forced to play, she’s going to play to win; and Shraeven may come to regret having gotten her into the game.

I have been meaning to read more steampunk, and this sounds really intresting.

The Honorable Alice B. Michaels is in a life or death struggle for survival—socially speaking, that is. At twenty-one, her age, her unladylike interest in automatons, and the unfortunate deaths of most of her family from the plague have sealed her fate as a less than desirable marriage prospect.
But a series of strange occurrences are about to lead Alice in a direction quite beyond the pale. High above the earth on the American airship USS Juniper, Gavin Ennock lives for the wind and the sky and his fiddle. After privateers attack theJuniper, he is stranded on the dank, dirty, and merciless streets of London. When Alice’s estranged aunt leaves her a peculiar inheritance, she encounters Gavin under most unusual—even shocking—circumstances.
Then Alice’s inheritance attracts the attention of the Third Ward, a clandestine organization that seizes the inventions of mad geniuses the plague leaves behind—all for the good of the Empire. But even the Third Ward has secrets. And when Alice and Gavin discover them, a choice must be made between the world and the Empire, no matter the risk to all they hold dear.
I admit it. I cursed when I read about this book. Why? Because it sounded great, and it had just been a Kindle Daily Deal. But I am looking forward to reading it.
Book One: Hard Day’s Knight
Children are missing.
The police are stumped.
Halloween is coming, and an ancient evil is on the horizon.
The vampires are the good guys.
This is not your ordinary fall weekend in Charlotte, North Carolina. Vampire private detectives Jimmy Black and Greg Knightwood have been hired to save a client from being cursed for all eternity, but end up in a bigger mess than they ever imagined.
Suddenly trapped in the middle of a serial kidnapping case, Jimmy and Greg uncover a plot to bring forth an ancient evil. Soon, they’ve enlisted the help of a police detective, a priest, a witch, a fallen angel and a strip club proprietor to save the world. This unlikely band of heroes battles zombies, witches, neuroses and sunburn while cracking jokes and looking for the perfect bag of O-negative.
Book Two: Back In Black
Vampire detectives Jimmy Black and Greg Knightwood investigate a series of assaults plaguing the alleys of Charlotte, North Carolina. The string of hate crimes becomes personal when Jimmy’s just-maybe-main-squeeze Detective Sabrina Law’s cousin is attacked. Helping a lady out could get the boys killed when they end up in Faerie. Before long, they’re up to their butts in trolls, dark fae and a grand battle royale. The odds are against them, but to the boys, this is just another day on the night shift—if the night shift included a steel cage match of supernaturals.
Book Three: Knight Moves
Et tu, Vampire? The boys discover they may be tied to a string of serial killings at the college and that they suddenly aren’t the only vampire game in town.
The vampire count in Charlotte is at least three. Or more. As far as the unhappy boys are concerned, anything more than two is a crowd not to be tolerated.
While tracking down the killer and the competition, they encounter coeds, booby traps (not related to the coeds) and a hirsute bounty hunter with a moon fetish and a bad attitude. To catch the killer, Jimmy will have to survive a dive headfirst into the great unwashed horde of Dorkdom (game night at the local comic shop).
What’s a red-blood-drinking vampire to do? His job. Again.

Friday Bargains: A mixed batch

Tart by Lauren Dane is discounted to 2.99 right now. ( Yes, I bought it. It has been on my wishlist for a long time 🙂 ) It is a US only bargain ( but it is *really* easy to avoid Geo restrictions at Allromance.)
Carina Press offers 30% off this weekend to celebrate Mother’s day. The coupon is MOMDAY2013 .
For US people:  Wicked in your arms by Sophie Jordan is free today only at Amazon and BN. But that is not all. I also noticed that two other stories in the same series are discounted right now.  Earl in my bed is discounted to 1.99 and Lessons from a scandalous bride is 2.99  🙂

There feels like I should have a lot more bargains… Oh well, this is it for this week.

Friday Bargains: All about Avon

Note: All the links are to Allromance, since I discovered them while browsing Allromance

The three first novels in Tessa Dare‘s Spindle Cove series are discounted to 0.99.  While I didn’t like the last one (my science background made it had to believe the reason for Miranda’s journey), the series is definitely worth to spend 3 dollar on :).

Avon have also discounted several of Jennifer Ryan‘s novels. I have one of them in the TBR pile, so  I am not buying another book by her until I have read that one.

Crazy by You by Rachel Gibson is discounted to 1.99, and several of her other novels are 3.99.

Several of Johanna Lindsey’s backlist are discounted to 1.99, and the rest are 3.99. Which is a pretty good price.

Friday Bargains: Historical mystery and Urban Fantasy ( and a recommendation)

If you like Contemporary Romance and Women’s fiction, I recommend that you add Lani Diane Rich to a  E-reader IQ alert since her books are really good and in KDP Select.  Right now, A Little Ray of Sunshine is free.

In a world where being of mixed-blood is a major liability, Sabina Kane has the only profession fit for an outcast: assassin. But, her latest mission threatens the fragile peace between the vampire and mage races and Sabina must scramble to figure out which side she’s on. She’s never brought her work home with her—until now.

This time, it’s personal.

Living in small town Rockabill, Maine, Jane True always knew she didn’t quite fit in with so-called normal society. During her nightly, clandestine swim in the freezing winter ocean, a grisly find leads Jane to startling revelations about her heritage: she is only half-human.

Now, Jane must enter a world filled with supernatural creatures alternatively terrifying, beautiful, and deadly- all of which perfectly describe her new “friend,” Ryu, a gorgeous and powerful vampire.

It is a world where nothing can be taken for granted: a dog can heal with a lick; spirits bag your groceries; and whatever you do, never-ever rub the genie’s lamp.

Catherine Webb’s Horatio Lyle mysteries are discounted to 1 dollar at Omnilit. They seem to be 8-10 dollar at all the other stores.   I bought the first one, since it sounded intresting.

In Victorian London at the height of the industrial revolution, Horatio Lyle is a former Special Constable with a passion for science and invention. He’s also an occasional, but reluctant, sleuth. The truth is that he’d rather be in his lab tinkering with dangerous chemicals and odd machinery than running around the cobbled streets of London trying to track down stolen goods. But when Her Majesty’s Government calls, Horatio swaps his microscope for a magnifying glass, fills his pockets with things that explode and sallies forth to unravel a mystery of a singularly extraordinary nature.
Thrown together with a reformed (i.e. ‘caught’) pickpocket called Tess, and a rebellious (within reason) young gentleman called Thomas, Lyle and his faithful hound, Tate, find themselves pursuing an ancient Chinese plate, a conspiracy that reaches to the highest levels of polite society and a dangerous enemy who may not even be human. Solving the crime will be hard enough – surviving would be a bonus…
